Why Fall Colours is the best time to play disc golf!
Everyone knows that autumn is the best time. The leaves are changing into a beautiful cornucopia of colours. The days are warm and the nights are crisp. The bugs are gone. I could go on, but it is no wonder that Fall Colours at Ski Wentworth is such a big hit. People from all over the region flock to the mountain to ride the chair and take in the colours. They meander down the mountain on a path that works for them. So many people get to come and experience what the locals understand every day; this place is spectacular.
For a long time people only knew this mountain as a ski area. Even when locals described the orientation of things they would say, ‘skiers left’ or just down from the ‘Explosion’. You only accessed the mountain by chair and only in the winter. Eventually the mountain bike crew came in and found their footing too. Somewhere along the lines the ownership group decided even more people should be encouraged to enjoy the spectacular views here and we got Fall Colours. Now this event is a mainstay for many Maritimers in the fall. Disc golf is the latest addition to the party and we are hoping this year a good chunk of our visitors take another route to enjoy what the mountain offers.
Tucked beside the start of the ‘New Chair’. Skiers right of the Bunny Hill is our newest disc golf course, ‘The Hopper’. It is short and sweet. It is full of beautiful trees, soft climbs, and fun-as-heck shots. For experienced players you can treat each hole as a par 2. For those new to the game try to complete each hole in 3 shots or less. Many of the baskets are visible from the chair as you ride to the top. We hope lots of people get to witness aces. For most people playing this course will only take you about 15 minutes.
The best part is that for this year anyone who buys a lift ticket will get to play the Hopper for free as many times as you like. There will be discs near hole 1 that you can borrow for the round if you don’t have your own. It is the perfect time to try out the game if you have been disc golf curious. If you already know and love the game it is a lovely and accessible way to throw some fun shots.
