Disc Golf Season

This year Wentworth is introducing a brand new season; disc golf season!

After all of these years in operation it is hard to believe we are still finding new season and new ways to explore the mountain, but we are!  In 2026 we will have our first full disc golf season on the mountain.

For those of you who may not know disc golf yet let us take a minute to bring you up to speed.  Disc golf in its simplest definition is golf played with specialized frisbees. These discs (frisbees) come in drivers, putters, and midranges that can all fly in different shapes and distances.  There are over 25,000 courses worldwide in at least 90 countries.  Most people who enjoy the game are amateur players who play just for fun but there is a strong professional tour that takes place all over the world.  The top earning tour players make roughly 1 million dollars a year on winnings and endorsements with large events have top prizes of $25,000 or more.

As fate would have it Cumberland county is home to one of Canada's most prolific disc golf course designers in Ben Smith.  He has designed 64 courses, mostly in the Atlantic provinces but has also done projects in places as far away as Scotland and Northern Ireland.  Lucky for all of us he spent the entire year here creating a masterpiece on the mountain.

Last year, despite some tricky working conditions, we were able to complete phase 1 of our epic disc golf project.  We created 2 distinct courses called the “Blue Mountain” and the ‘Red Mountain” course(s).  The Blue course is designed to challenge seasoned players with longer, more technical shots, while the Red course is geared more towards new players or those who don’t quite throw as far. Each of these courses start just off of the Chickadee at the base of the ‘Pugwash’ and ‘Buns Bumps’.  There are also 3 ‘warm up holes’ just behind the barn that can be played free of charge.

Our disc golf course(s) will open in the spring just as soon as all the snow is gone off the tee pads and baskets.  It will be open 7 days a week, rain or shine at a cost of $15 per day or a family pass for $50.  On days when the chairlift is operating players can choose to buy a lift ticket and get a reduced rate to include disc golf.  You can take the chair to the top of the hill and play our ‘Peak Disc Golf’ layout that features some of the best holes on the top of the mountain and the down hill holes that take you back to the chalet.  If you have your own disc bring them! If now the rental shop has sets available for rent or purchase.

Most disc golfers use a free app called Udisc.  It shows you our course map as well as all the other courses listed around the world.  It is great for score keeping or finding more information about the game.  We strongly encourage you to download it when you get the chance.

Our disc golf course is already considered one of the best in all of Canada.  It has achieved this remarkable distinction because of both the way it was created and the top professional players who have contributed to it.  Our courses were built by following sustainable forestry practices, thinning the forest and avoiding any clear cuts, as well as leaving a thick layer of organic materials (mulch) on the ground.  It is a stunning walk through a mature acadian forest that boasts more than 14 unique tree species.  In addition to our intentional design we were lucky enough to have the 5 time world Champion Paige Piece come and experience it in its early days and help shape the layout.  Late last fall the world's (arguably) most famous disc golf Simon Lizotte came and co-designed a GOLD layout that will be among the most challenging disc golf layouts in all of North America.  You can see how much he enjoyed the process here in this 30 minute documentary that was produced last year.

When you do finally decide to play disc golf give yourself at least 2 hours to enjoy the course. Check our website to see if the chairlift or barn are open and make a full day of it.  We promise you won’t be disappointed!
